Numbers Don't Lie!

Well my time with Killing it With Kilgore is almost over. I'm very sad by this realization. So let's focus on some good news. I ran my last timed mile on Saturday. To refresh your memory here is how my timed miles have improved.

May 14th my time was 12:51
June 11th my time was 11:06
Aug 18th my time was 10:08

That's right I shaved off almost one minute from my last timed mile and about 3 minutes off my original time!!!  *I didn't run a timed mile in July because Christy was on vacation.*
I'm thrilled with the progress I have made.

Here are some more numbers for you to crunch...my measurements!

                MAY                                              AUGUST                    TOTAL INCHES LOST
Waist       40 1/2"                                           37 1/2"                                           3"
Hip          43"                                                 41"                                                 2"
Bust         43 1/2"                                          39 1/2"                                           4"
Thigh       (L)21" (R)21 1/2"                         (L)18" (R)18 1/2"                          3"
Arms       (L)12 1/2" (R)12 1/2"                    (L)12" (R)12"                               1/2"

Of course the boobs are always the first to go (LOL) and I have to say I'm happier with my new size. I was a little disappointed in only losing a half inch on my arms but since they are more defined I happy. I'm not wearing tank tops YET but I am wearing shorter sleeved shirts...that's a start! I have been showing off my legs more =) I feel confident in a pair of shorts now!!

My starting weight was 180 pounds and now I weigh 163 pounds That's a total weight loss of 17 pounds!!! My goal was to lose 20 pounds, so I'm very happy with this number.

I have had trouble finding time to workout lately. To be honest, I'm not sure if I'm making excesses or if my reasons are legit. Either way...I have decided to join the YMCA!!! I'm going Monday morning to sign the family up. This is something I have wanted to do for years but have put it off do to my small fear of gym memberships. Now that I have a good start on a healthier lifestyle I'm ready to make gym visits a priority. By the way, Christy is so awesome that she is meeting me at the Y to show me around.

The main benefit for me joining the gym is child care.  I can get a good workout in while Cameron is playing with "his kids".  CUTE CAMERON SAYING: He refers to Christy's sons as "my boys" and the kids at church are "my kids" I think he maybe a little possessive. Okay, back to gym talk...I am looking forward to the classes and swimming but since the number one reason/excuse that I have for not getting in a good workout is Cameron; I'm looking forward to child care the most. I'm pretty sure I have blogged about Cameron hiding from me or going past his boundaries while I was working out outside. It's too stressful for me to deal with.

My last few workouts have involved Cameron. I have bench pressed him, done tons of leg workouts, and the one he likes the best but is super hard for me is push-up with him on my back. I can only do about 5 modified before I collapse. I do suggest if you have a young one at home try doing some fun moves with them, it's playtime for them and you can burn some calories.

Check back soon for before and after pics!
Please be patient as I try to get the nerve up to post them, LOL!

Obstacle Course

CHRISTY IS BACK IN TOWN!!!!
So I may be just a little excited that Christy is back from her vacation. I'm a little jealous too, she said the weather was around 75 to 80 degrees and they played outside all day long.  It's been 100 plus for weeks now here in Oklahoma. I'm use to the fact that summertime here means if you want to do anything outside you have to start early in the morning or wait until (later than I can stay up) night. So the hot weather has been added to my list of obstacles to overcome.

WEEK OF JULY 30 - AUG 4
I did better at keeping up with my workouts. I woke up early on Monday and ran 1.25 miles, Tuesday I met up with Christy for a great workout. On Wednesday I waited until Cameron took his nap and did Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown, that I check out at the library. Took Thursday off but had a full day of house hunting with the mother-in-law and of course Cameron was with us. Friday I woke up early and did  a workout that I created. It was harder than I thought it would be but it felt good outside so I didn't mind. Oh, and while I was doing my warm-up run I kept having to pull my shorts up!!

I went on a girls weekend, well actually half weekend trip. My friend picked me up late Friday afternoon and we headed to another friends house in Dallas. We had dinner and drinks. I felt like I ate pretty well. I had crab stuffed salmon with asparagus but it had a creamy sauce on it that I tried to avoid but it was so yummy I'm pretty sure I had more than I needed. Saturday we got up and went shopping.  I didn't want to buy too much since I'm still trying to lose weight so I just bought a skirt and a pair of capris. After a late lunch we headed back home.

I ended up having a few sodas on Saturday because I was so tired but later I realized that I was still tired and I had heartburn. Not a good choice! Also, I didn't prepared for our shopping trip by taking almonds or something to snack on. So for our late lunch I ate too much and too fast.I didn't eat dinner either because I was so full from lunch. I'm just glad that is not my normal eating schedule.

So I'm going to try to continue my workout plan of working out a least 4 day a week but I'm going to focus on my eating habits. I know that if I eat health I feel better but for some reason I don't always make the best choices when it comes to picking the right foods and drink. So aging...NO SODA'S and think before I eat. Oh and always have water and snacks with me. =)

Oh and on a side note...I'm loving the Olympics!! I think that is partially why I have been working out more. Those athletes are amazing! Just thought I would share.

Always Be Prepared

As I stated in my last blog...I have been busy the last few weeks getting ready for VBS at my church. Well last week was the big week and it wore me out! I only got in one workout during the last week but I did get a lot of exercise by running around the church, climbing ladders & moving tables.

Chad went out of town last week and I thought it would be easier to eat healthy while he was gone but I didn't make time to prepare a menu or go to the grocery store so I ended up eating out more than I wanted. I did have a friend that brought over dinner one night; spinach salad with steak and fresh blueberries with slice peaches for dessert. It was very yummy! I went to another friends house one night to work on a craft project and we ordered pizza and salad. I have to admit that I have been drinking a lot of soda the past week and half.  Over all it was not a good week as far as health and fitness goes.

Now that Chad's home and VBS is over I will try to be better prepared and focus on my health again.

On Sunday, July 22nd, I woke up at 5am so I could workout before going to church. I only had time to do half a workout since I needed to be at church early.  I also stayed after church to help take down some decorations so I was back to climbing ladders and carrying heavy stuff.

Today when I got up I started in on all the house work that had been neglected during my crazy, busy week. I also wanted to make sure that I drank plenty of water and NO SODA! So I made a pitcher of lemon water. I also made a menu and already went grocery shopping.

I planned on getting up early and run but after a horrible nights of sleep I made the bad choice of sleeping in instead of working out.  I've been doing a few moves here and there while I'm playing with Cameron and doing housework.

I'm sad that my time with Killing it with Killgore is almost over. I'm hoping I can lose a few more pounds in the next few weeks and maintain the weight loss after my time with Christy is done.

On My Own

I'm embarrassed at how long it's been since I've blogged. VBS has kind of taken over my life the last couple of weeks. So not only have I been busier than usual but Christy is on vacation so I don't have the extra encouragement to help stay on track.
I will try to think back to what I've been up too.

The week of July 1st-7th - I worked out upper body on Monday. Ran a mile and a half in 15 minutes on Wednesday.  Saturday I did an extremely hard workout that left me sore for about 3 days. (Check out my workouts at the bottom of the page.) Not bad for being on my own.

The week of July 8th-14th - I was very bad this week!! We had VBS workdays every day and I ended up taking over the Preschool Director position so my focus has not been on working out.
I did workout on Tuesday with Chad.  I felt like I didn't get a good workout because we were using the same equipment so I had to do a set and then wait for him to finish before I did my next set. I loved working out with him but I think we will have to do stations next time so we are not using the same equipment.
For the rest of the week I got my workout running all over the church, moving tables and climbing ladders. Not my idea workout but I was active.

I don't think I have lost any weight by not working out as hard and as often. I have been doing alright with my diet. I have been giving into my cravings more than in the past so I will have to stop that before it get's out of hand.

I did buy two new dresses, in a smaller size!!! One is even sleeveless.

All in all, I miss Christy and hope that she get's back soon to help me get back on track!!

When Hunger Calls... WARNING: food pictures may cause cravings!

Since I have been eating healthier, I have really enjoyed coming up with new foods to eat. I have made some homemade pizzas that are awesome! From meatball and veggies to my own spin on my favorite - Hawaiian.  I used Boboli pizza crust, Prego veggie-smart pizza sauce and added, turkey lunch meat, pineapple chunks, onion slices and topped it off with mozzarella cheese. DELICIOUS!!

I have also made a yummy turkey sandwich on 100% whole wheat mini bagel. I started by spreading some cream cheese on the bagel and then simply added turkey and lettuce. I thought it look a little like a burger so I took a picture of it... It was very satisfying!
                                                         Simple Turkey Bagel Sandwich

One day I was craving a restaurant style salad but didn't want to go out so I checked to see what was in the fridge. I had spring salad mix, turkey lunch meat, blueberries, strawberries, and feta cheese. I put a little balsamic vinegar and olive oil on it and wallah! This was so good that I had it twice last week.
Turkey & Berry Salad

Dinner's at our house are a little tricky. At first I tried to eat what "my boys" wanted but smaller portions. That was not working so I tried having them eat what I wanted to eat and they didn't like that, so... I am now a short order cook =) I will fix steak for Chad, popcorn chicken for Cam and I will have baked Tilapia. If I fix different meat we have the same side, like a salad or sweet potatoes. Sometime we will have the same meat, say chicken, but I will make different sides or add veggies to my plate. I know a lot of people are totally against doing this but it works for my family.
Baked Tilapia with a Garden Salad

One thing Christy has taught me is to surround myself with healthy things/people. In order for me to continue my healthy eating habits I have started to read nutrition books and health magazines. My local library has a good selection of both so I check them out there instead of buying them. I can always make copies if I find something worth keeping.  I have also been watching the Olympic trials and seeing all those amazing athletes has helped me to stay motivated to continue with my journey to a healthy lifestyle.

Lake Time

Last weekend (June 22-24) was our annual family camp out at Lake Eufaula . We had a blast! I struggled with my diet, which is usual for me on weekends. When my family camps it is 3 to 4 families, each with camping trailers and maybe a few tents. The individual families fix there own breakfast and lunch and then we all get together for at dinner.
I woke up around 5:30am on Saturday and ate some fruit and drank water before my workout.  I created a workout that only needed my 8 pound medicine ball and one elastic band.
                                                            My morning workout view
I ran about a quarter of a mile to warm up.
I did 12 reps of the following
- Squat jump-up on curb
- Pile squat picking up medicine ball
- Dead lifts with medicine ball
- Calf raises on curb with medicine ball
- Walking lunges with kick back
- Walking lunges with knee high
I did side steps and crossovers to get heart rate up
I did 10 reps of the following
- Shoulder press with band
- Shoulder lateral raises with band
- Shoulder front raises with band
- Triceps kick backs with band
- Push-up on the ground
I did 15 reps of the following
- Russian Twist with medicine ball
- Crazy Ivan
I ran about half mile to finish my workout.

I had originally planned on doing each set 3 times but since I decided to go tubing I figure I could put my muscles in motion and get a workout that way instead.

I felt great after my workout and the rest of the family was waking up and making breakfast by the time I finished. For breakfast I had a biscuit with gravy and a half a piece of bacon. Then we went for a boat ride and I tubed for the first time in years. My dad has a pontoon boat so we don't go very fast but the water was choppy so I still got a good workout in. For lunch I had leftover spaghetti with meat sauce. I ate way too much especially since it was hot and I was being active. After waiting a LONG time for my food to settle we went for another ride on the tub and before we knew it, it was dinner time. Saturday night we had a fish fry for dinner. I had about 4 pieces of fish, some coleslaw, a hush-puppy, and a few fries. It was hot so I drank lots of water that day. Now, we were at the lake so I did have a few beers and I made the bad choice of indulging in a few sodas. And of course what is camping if you don't have a s'mores??? So even with my workout I still felt bad when I got home after having all the food and drinks that I have cut out of my diet lately.

Getting Back On Track

WEEKEND BLUNDER
Why is it always harder to stay on track during the weekend? This past weekend was my own fault...or maybe I can blame whoever came up with silly "holidays" like Father's Day! So I wanted to do something nice for my hubby and that included making some brownies.  I really thought I could eat only one and walk away. WRONG!! I couldn't walk away. I ate one, then two and then I would walk away only to find myself heading back towards the pan later. My belly was hurting but I still wanted more.  Luckily my husband finally finished the small pan of brownies with a little help from our son. I'm still trying to figure out why, if it makes my tummy hurt, I would keep wanting more? That is something I may never understand. Sooo, don't come to my house anytime soon looking for brownies because I think it will be awhile before I make another batch. ;-)
I also had fast food cheeseburger and fries on Sunday after church. I have got to get better at planning Sunday lunch meals!I did pretty good on Saturday, we ended up eating dinner out because a quick trip to the store turned into going to the mall. I had a grilled chicken breast lettuce wrap, it came with some fruit that was in juice so I only had a few bites. Earlier that day I helped mow the yard so I felt pretty good until I got home to the brownies...

MONDAY
Christy came to my house around 8:30am to workout. She focused on upper body and man was I hurting when she left. She had me move quick between each set trying to keep my heart rate up. By the last circuit I was fatigued but felt great. Now, trying to wash and fix my hair afterwards was a little challenging. LOL! I was at the church shortly after our workout to help with VBS decorations. Since I got a little off my healthy eating during the weekend, I decided to take my lunch with me. We usually have a big spread of yummy but not so healthy food. Monday was something they call walking taco's. I had them for the first time last year and they are good but I opted for my turkey wrap and grapes instead. I was a little embarrassed for bringing my own food but they all know what I'm doing so I didn't mind too much. A lot of them commented on how good and healthy my wrap looked so that helped me enjoy it more.

WEDNESDAY
Christy had sent me a workout to do on my own on Wednesday. I was planning on doing the workout in the morning before Cam's friend came over to play but Cam woke up with a bad headache and all plans had to change. I had to cancel the play date and I figured my workout would have to take a backseat as well. I sat on the couch with him until he was feeling better. Three to four hours later he was playing around a little but every time he would try to run he would cry and hold his head. I had sent Chad, my husband, a text to see if he would like me to wait on him to workout and he did so I waited until 5pm to workout. It was a quick workout focusing on core. Chad and I did a great job and had it knocked out in no time! Then it was time to fix dinner and relax.

THURSDAY
Since Christy and I both have plans this weekend we moved Fat Blasting Friday to Thursday. I took a quick run up and down my street to get warmed up. I have to say, I felt great after my run and Christy was impressed with my time.
Focusing on lower body Christy gave me a few new moves to try. I'm always excited to try new things! Everything was going good until I did burpee's. See I have a "non-diagnosed heart condition" that causes my heart rate to be extremely high when doing any activity. Christy has noticed that when I put my hands over my head this condition worsens. I have noticed in my everyday life that if I get up too fast or bend over and get back up to quick I feel like I'm going to pass out. I believe this is due to low blood pressure. So with me having a high pulse rate and low blood pressure, we have determined that I can no longer do burpee's.
For those who don't know what a burpee is I'll try to explain in. You start by jumping up while you extend your arms overhead, after landing you put your hands on the ground and kick back your feet so you end up in the plank position, hold and then bring your feet to starting position (with a hop) and jump up repeating the move again.
I was having a hard time recovering from the second set so Christy had me take it slow and cut out burpee's. We had finished the first circuit and started circuit number two.  While I was doing the calf raises I keep loosing my balance, as Christy and I were talking about it I started to feel different. She said that my eyes looked like they were glazing over and my red cheeks turned white so she told me to go inside to get out of the heat. I felt like I was going to get sick but shortly after going inside I started feeling normal again. She decided that we would call it a day. She checked up on my later to see if I was doing better. I felt fine after I had lunch and drank some water. This is the first time I didn't get to complete a workout. Christy was excellent through the whole ordeal. I thought she asked great questions that helped me try to figure out what may have caused this to happen. I was ready to go back and try to finish the workout but Christy didn't want me to over due it and something happen after she left. She really is a great trainer!!

A Little Bit of Everything

CRAVINGS...
If you follow me on Facebook you already know this but for those who don't....
I have craved a lot of things before; pizza, sweets, soda, beer, hot wings...the list goes on and on. Well, on Wednesday, June 13th I had a strange craving to workout!  I tried to ignore it but just like most my cravings it would not go away.  So I indulged and made up a quick workout of things that Christy has taught me.  I felt great afterwards! I never felt this good after breaking down and eating ice cream or burger and fries. Christy said that she craves exercise but I didn't think it would happen to me or happen so quickly. I mean, I've only been working out for a month but I do have to admit that it's nice to crave something that is good for me, for once.

WHAT'S NEW...
As if it wasn't hard enough to fit in workout I know have a two day commitment that I have to work around. We have started VBS (Vacation Bible School) work days at my church. A lot goes into VBS at St. Andrew's UMC and so we have a group of mostly women that get together at the church twice a week to make decorations and help prepare for the week when we get to teach young children about God! I love that I get to have this time to build friendships while being crafty.  The group of ladies that I see most Sunday's in passing have started to notice my weigh loss. It's nice to hear "hey there skinny!" and "those pant's you're wearing are looking pretty baggy." I have to wear belts now with all my pants and shorts! I want to run out and buy new clothes that fit but since it's only been a month and I plan on losing more weight, I will refrain and look like a slob just a little longer.

CAMERON...
I realized that I have not mentioned my sweet Cameron lately in my blogs. Since school let out for summer we have been meeting at Chrsity's house and her boys have been playing with Cam while we workout. It's funny because after the first day Cameron was asking to go play with "his boys"LOL. It took me awhile to figure it out that he was talking about Christy's sons.  They are older than Cam but they are great with him.
When I workout by myself at home I use to go to the garage but because Cameron has scared me several times I now workout inside. He likes to hide and is really good at being very quite while I call his name over and over as I look everywhere inside and outside. Even when I start to panic and scram his name, he's still quite as can be. When I finally find him, he smile that cute smile and says "you find me!". If only he knew what this did to me!!! I guess the good thing is that it gets my heart rate up without doing cardio, HAHAHA!!

WEIGH IN....
Since I weighed in on Monday, I have tried to pay better attention to what I eat in drink. I climbed back on the scale again today and was happy to see 170! That's right folks, this girl has lost 10 pounds!! Now usually I would celebrate such an accomplishment with a food reward of sorts. This time I just smiled, looked in the mirror and admired my slimmer body for a second and then when on about my day.

Progress

A month ago I ran my first timed mile in 12:51. On Monday, June 11th I ran another timed mile to see my progress...11:06!!! The fist time I ran I had to walk around the half mile marker. Not this time, I ran the full mile. The last quarter mile I told Christy that my body wanted to quit so I had to do really push myself to keep going and before I knew it I had finished. What a great feeling! We did a light workout after and I ran some more. I could not believe how quick my recovery time is now. I also weighed in on Monday and I've lost a total of 7 lbs! I have to say, I thought the it would be greater than that but knowing my once flabby body is becoming more tone and all my clothes are becoming really baggy, i think 7 lbs is great! Christy was also happy with my weight loss and said that losing about 2 lbs a week is a good average. The slower it comes off the longer it stays off! Another big accomplishment was I did 3 sets of 10, yes 10 modified push-up on the ball. I had a hard time doing one the first time. I was just going to do 5 but I felt stronger and wanted to keep going!
I'm so happy with the progress I'm making. I'm thinking a new wardrobe is in my future =)what a great reward that will be.
I can't believe all the positive changes that have come from working out for an hour, two to three times a week. When I workout I give it my all. I'm sweaty, smelly, and fatigue after I finish my workouts. I always try to make the best of the hour. Sometime this is really hard and the lazy girl in me tries to come out and say you've done enough just slow down but I know that I will feel better if I give it my all and I can rest once it's over.

Stronger

Well it's been about a month since I started Killing it With Kilgore! Monday, June 11th I will be running another timed mile to see how I've improved.

As usual it's been a crazy week. Christy sent me a workout to do on my own Monday. I felt like I breezed through it. I was a little sore on Tuesday but could not wait for us to meet up on Wednesday to see what Christy had in store for me.

I met Christy at her house Wednesday morning and she had made a tougher workout since I'm getting stronger!! How exciting, after only a month of training with Christy I am now stronger and have to be challenged more. This make me very happy! She had me do double duty. I did squats with curls and alternating lunges with hammer curls. I also did triceps kickbacks with a bar, which I really liked. It seems like I did something else but I can't remember, like I said before it's been a crazy week! I love doing my chest workouts on the stability ball because you have to engage your glutes and core to keep your body straight. I really feel like I get a great workout doing this. So I did chest fly, back fly, back extension, and chest press all on the stability ball. I also did rows and shoulder press with the bar. Since I'm getting stronger, sorry but I LOVE saying that and since I've worked hard for it I don't mind repeating it. =) She had me do a set of 4 or 5 moves, doing 10 to 12 reps each and repeating the set 3 times. I'll tell you by the third round I'm ready for it to be over! I ended up walking/running 1.25 mile. I have been sweating and grunting more during my workouts and that makes me fill like a bad mama jama! LOL!

Thursday was my husbands company picnic and we enjoyed having family fun time at the park. I didn't workout but we did play frisbee and explore the park with Cameron.

Fat Burning Friday! That's what Christy called it and it was not a lie!!!! O-U-C-H! To warm up I walked/ran half mile on the treadmill. She still had me doing a set of 4 to 5 moves, 10 to 12 reps and repeating the set 3 times.  This workout took a little longer because my glutes and legs where still sore from Wednesdays workout. Let me remind everyone of how accommodating Christy is. I forgot to bring my medicine ball and she had created this workout using the ball several times. I felt bad that she had to modify with dumb bells but she was awesome in doing so! I started by doing a catch, squat, across, toss move which would have been easier with the ball but we made it work using a dumb bell. I moved right into 3 angled lunges, then wall ball squats and plie squats picking up weight and putting it back. After doing this three times we did side steps and crossovers the width of her back yard and then right into the next circuit. Stabilized bicep curls, triceps dips, triceps kickbacks with band, bow and arrow with band (AWESOME move) and modified push-ups on blocks. After finishing the third set I jumped on the treadmill and ran a full half mile! I didn't think I could do it but I was so happy when I finished!! I love the benefits that I'm seeing from sticking with it.

Cha...cha...cha...changes!

First let me start by saying I had several complements today at church, YEA! It was nice to hear that some have noticed a change in my appearance. A big thank you to everyone that said something, it really made my day!

I have been thinking about the changes I have made in my lifestyle and wanted to share some with you. Let's start with what I have been eating. The first week Christy had me keep a food diary and after she looked at it she noticed that I was not eating often enough. I was going up to 5 hours between meals. SO I have started eating every 2 to 3 hours. I have noticed that this helps with portion control. Here is what a typical day of food looks like.

7am    1/2 cup whole grain cereal with 1% milk and about a cup of mixed berries on the side
9am    1/4 cup granola with berries and nuts
11am  Turkey lettuce wrap or sandwich on 100% whole wheat with provolone cheese & mustard. I
will sometimes put lettuce, avocado, onion, tomato if I'm in the mood and have them around.
2pm    Fiber bar
5pm    4 oz. chicken breast (boiled in frying pan), 1/2 cup pasta (Smart taste brand), 2 Tbs. tomato
           sauce.
1 Cup salad with radishes and homemade Italian dressing.
Sometimes I will have fruit for dessert to satisfy my sweet tooth.
If I feel hungry after dinner I will drink water or sometimes I have a small glass of 1% milk.

The changes in food I have made are... I use to eat pancakes with butter and syrup or biscuits and gravy for breakfast. I rarely had a morning snack. Then lunch was some kind of fried chicken or burger and fries. Then a sweet treat, like ice cream or chocolate anything, for an afternoon snack. Dinner has not changed too much. We LOVE pasta so we eat pasta a few times a week. I just make sure we have veggies to go with it and I eat more veggies than pasta.
I grew up in Southeastern Oklahoma and was raised on fried foods and red meat so these types of food have been somewhat of a struggle for me to pass up.  I still love burgers but eat turkey burgers at home and I try to have fresh bell peppers or other veggies as a side to replace the crunch of chips or fries. We also like Mexican food but now I eat corn tortillas instead of flour, I use less cheese and I load up on veggies.

I use to drink a lot of soda and didn't focus on drinking much water. Now I drink water or tea. I do sip on my husbands soda sometimes but one or two sips usually get me over my craving. I'm still working on drinking more water. I usually forget to stay hydrated and as a result I get muscle cramps. I have gotten better but still not up to the recommended daily amount. Christy told me to ALWAYS have a bottle of water with me wherever I go...that's a great tip!

As far as working out... Meeting up with Christy has been a great way to make sure I get a workout in. This past week I did a workout by myself and I figured out that if I set a time to workout I'm more likely to actually do it. Since I've started Killing it With Kilgore I would say, "Ok, I'm going to workout on Friday." Then before I knew it Friday was over and I didn't workout. When Christy and I had plans to workout one day but had to go with "Plan B" due to weather, she emailed me a workout and told me to still get up and workout at 7am. It was one of those morning where your day starts off all wrong but since I had already scheduled my workout I made sure that I did it. If I hadn't planned on working out at a certain time I'm pretty sure the day would have gotten away from me and I would have missed another workout.

I hope that this has helped those of you who would like to make changes but don't know where to start. I'm so happy with all the changes I have made and I often find myself thinking...Why did I not do this sooner? AND Why was I being so mean to my body by feeding it unhealthy food and being lazy? I hope that everyone can find a "Christy" to help them get up and get moving in the right direction!

Happy Memorial Day!

May 28, 2012 - I woke up early so I could meet Christy at 6:30am at Earlywine park for a quick workout. After not working out all weekend, besides doing a little Zumba on Friday night...I was struggling! First focus was on lower body and we did supersets. I did squat jumps, weighted squats, deadlifts, lunges with the box and walking lunges. Then we did biceps, triceps and chest. We finished up with abs. I was sad that my strained muscle in my right shoulder area was giving me problems today because I was excited about the new ab workout on the stability ball. Luckily Christy is great at modifying moves for me so we moved to the ground to work my obliques (love handles). I ended up running more than I have been. I was feeling really good when I left. My arms were shaking while I drove home. I spent the rest of my day playing/working with my husband and son. It was a beautiful day so we finished working in the flower bed, grilled out kabobs for dinner and took a family walk around our neighborhood. It was a great day. By bed time my legs were starting to get sore. Hope I can walk in the morning... =)

Weekend Update...

Friday, May 25, 2012 - What a busy and LOOONG day! After spending the day with in-laws and a busy toddler it was time for me to pack my bags and head to church. We had our annual end of school lock-in for 1st through 6th grade. If any of you are familiar with church functions you know that there is never a short on food, and usually it's junk food. So I planned ahead and ate before I went and also packed some veggies and dips, nuts, banana, granola and fiber bar.
The kids evening was filled with races, Zumba, scavenger hunt and bible trivia kickball. We also had smoothies which Christy ended up helping with. Both of us were happy to see the kids come up for seconds on a healthy snack! After smoothies the girls headed off for spa time while the boys played organized sports. The plan was to play board games next but everyone was wiped out and asking to get ready for bed and watch a movie. I ended up falling asleep around 3am and woke up several times during the night before getting up at 6am to help start breakfast.

Saturday - I finally got home around 10am and then it was time to shower and get ready for a birthday party at the park that started at 11am. After playing and visiting for 2 hours we headed back home so Cameron could take a nap. Well Cam feel asleep on the way home but woke up as soon as I tried to lay him down. I still had to bake two desserts for a family get together later that evening. I ended up making brownies and a cherry/apple crisp. Neither one of these are a healthy choice but it's what I had to work with. I was a little nervous going to a family cookout because I usually leave stuffed and miserable. Not this time! I had water instead of soda and I ate a bunless burger with veggies and passed on the chips. I did enjoyed a small bite of the cherry/apple crisp to satisfy my never ending sweet tooth. We had a great time and can't wait to hang out again. We got home around 8pm, I think and after putting Cameron to bed I crashed. I can't believe I made it through the entire busy day with only 3 hours of sleep!

Sunday - I was still not completely rested but felt better after getting about 9 hours of sleep. After church we stopped by and picked up fast food. I had been so busy I forgot to plan ahead and I was craving burger and fries. I used to eat this at least once a week. I had not had fries or a "real" burger in almost a month. After eating most the burger and a small amount of fries I realized that I did NOT enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I was glad I gave into this craving because now I realize that I don't have to give into all my cravings.

Ready for the Weekend!

It's been another busy week. On Tuesday I was running around getting the house clean and ready for the in-laws visit. Then on Wednesday we attended a funeral.  My father-in-law's sister passed after battling cancer for several years. It was a wonderful service for a great woman with a beautiful soul. It was great to see family that we haven't seen in a long time and it was also encouraging to find out that some of them are reading my blogs and cheering me on! Thanks ladies! After the funeral the church served the family lunch. We had BBQ...MMMM! I love BBQ but since I'm trying to eat healthier I had to be careful. I ended up eating about 3 ounces of brisket, two small spoonfuls of baked beans, about a 1/4 cup green beans, a slice of white bread (the sauce was spicy and it helped cool down my mouth). I also had a small, delicious serving of peach cobbler, it's my favorite and I couldn't pass it up.
Before we left that morning I started dinner in the crock pot...chicken, onion and bell peppers. When we walked in the door the aroma of pepper and onion filled the air. It smelled sooo good. I took the chicken out and put it in the mixer to shred it and it turned to dust instead. Yep, I overcooked the chicken and it was DRY! So needless to say, homemade chicken tacos was a bust =(. We had dinner at a Mexican restaurant instead. I ended up having 5 chips with salsa while I waited for my chicken taco salad to arrive. This is a big difference in how I use to eat out. I would mindlessly eat chips, cheese dip, flour tortillas before eating two chicken enchiladas and some rice. I have to say I wanted to dive into all that yummy food but it felt great to only eat what I needed!

Thursday, May 24, 2012 - I met Christy at Earlywine Park at 9am to workout. I started by running about a quarter of a mile before starting. Christy and I noticed that I'm getting faster! First circuit focused on biceps, triceps and shoulders. She had me do supersets, which is working the same muscles group in different ways without resting in between. After a quick jog around to get heart rate up, it was time to focus on core. We did some fun moves on the Pilates ball. She had me plank, push-up and do superman while I alternated lifting one leg and the opposite arm. OUCH! I felt great after my workout! I also enjoyed working out in the morning and since Cameron never takes naps, I think we will be enjoying early workouts more often.

Monday Funday

So after my long/busy Sunday I was ready to relax...but that will have to come later.  I had to take my car to the shop to fix the damage done from a little fender bender I had about a week ago, then I had to pick up a rental car. Today was also Toddler Time with the church group so we went and played at Jump Zone for about an hour. Cameron did not want to leave but I had to get home, feed him (and myself) lunch and try to get him to lay down for a nap before Christy came over at 12:30 to workout. I didn't quite have time to get him asleep so I put on a movie and told him to lay down and rest.  Like most 2 year old's he did not take a nap but I was surprised to see that he entertained himself for an hour while I worked out.  I checked on him a few times throughout our workout and every time I came in he had less clothes on, LOL, but thankfully he kept his diaper on.

I was really not looking forward to this workout. Still exhausted for the day before I was not sure I had anything left to give. I should have known that Christy would help push me just enough to get the last bit of energy out.  The first circuit focused on chest and back. I used free weights and the band. This time we worked out in my garage because of rain. So to get cardio in I did jump ups and step overs on the step (I'm not sure if those are the actual names). We also did side steps around my neighborhood as well as ran up and down the street 3 times. Christy said I ended up running about 3/4 of a mile! After upper body I worked out my glutes using the bands and yoga mat. I also did some dead-lifts and squats. I finished my workout with a few ab moves.  I felt worn out but energized! I finally got my son to take a nap and usually I would join him but today I decided to work on my blog. While typing this my arms are still shaky and earlier I had a hard time getting off the floor. I look forward to the days where I don't struggle as much but I'm so thankful that I have Christy right now to help me get over the brutal, getting started hill.

Weekend Fun

I'm not supposed to weigh myself until June but I am feeling skinnier. I've read stories of people who say once they started working out they feel like they have more energy... Well I'm not one of those people. After about a week of working out I feel about the same but I have noticed that my house is cleaner and I don't sit around as much as I use too. So maybe I do have more energy but I'm too busy using it to realize that I have it, HAHA.

On Saturday, May 19, 2012 My husband and I took our 2 year old to the park to play for an hour then we put him in the stroller and went for a jog about the track. We went to South Lakes Park on the south side of Oklahoma City. The website says the track is 1-1/4 mile but we took a trail that went around a pond so I'm not sure how far we actually went.  We jogged/walked around in about 19 minutes. Now I have to say it was a very windy day and our stroller made a "kite" when the wind picked up so I was doing some resistance running at times.  My husband and I took turns pushing the stroller. We felt great after exercising!

Sunday was a very busy day! I work at our church as the Assistant Children's Director and my husband plays guitar with the worship group so we get to church at 7:30am and usually don't leave until 12:30pm. I have to set up tables and chairs for one of the classrooms so I got in a little workout that morning. =) I do attend the early service so after sitting up the classrooms I get to relax and focus on God! After service I'm usually on top of the world and ready for the day.  From 9:30 to 12:30 I'm usually walking or standing. After church we use to stop by a fast food restaurant on the way home to pick up lunch but now that we are trying to take better care of ourselves. I made sure there were plenty of quick healthy fixes at home for lunch.  I ended up have a turkey lettuce wrap and  a banana.  I had to eat, change and head out the door. My friend/boss talked me into doing the Red Mud Run, since one of her teammates had to drop out at the last minute. For those who don't know...the Red Mud Run is an 5k obstacle course. We went through shallow ponds, climbed a huge mud pile, climbed over several walls/wooden ladders/rope ladders, oh and I tried to run but mostly walked on mud, grass and gravel trials. I made the HUGE mistake of wearing capri pants and a long sleeve shirt because it was cold and rainy. When we finished my capris were touching my shoes, I swore they weighed 5 pounds but my husband weighed them and it was only 2 pounds. Still the next time I do it, and I plan on doing it again, I will NOT be wearing capris! Biker shorts and a t-shirt only!  So we finished the race and I picked up pizza and headed home. After taking a quick shower and eating a little too much pizza, it was time to run out the door again. We had to go back to the church for my disciples graduation. YEA!! We got home around 7:30-8pm and I was ready for be but there was still work to be done around the house. After we finished cleaning up and putting Cameron to bed I went straight to bed. I'm pretty sure I was asleep by 9:30 and I slept like a baby.

What a Difference a Day Makes

Friday, May 18, 2012 - So I ended up going to be early last night because I couldn't shake the funky mood I was in. I woke up this morning feeling much better. I had some fruit and nut granola for breakfast and then I cleaned house for about an hour before Cameron woke up. Anyone who has toddlers in the house knows how exciting this can be. I took a break from cleaning to play trains and make Cameron breakfast. While making breakfast I realized we were running low of food options so I decided to make a list and head to the grocery store.
When we got home from the grocery story we had lunch. I had a turkey lettuce wrap with cheese and mustard. I have been trying to cut back on my bread intake. I love, love, LOVE bread and I thought it would be hard but I really like lettuce wraps. They have a crunch to them that is refreshing. I also had two small celery sticks with roasted red pepper hummus (another new favorite).
After lunch I put Cam down for a nap and since my muscles have been tight from working out I decided to try a yoga DVD. It took me about 15 minutes of trying to keep up with instructor before I determined I'm still not a fan of yoga so I switched to a stretching workout DVD. I got more of a workout than I thought I would get, which I liked. It had a few yoga moves that I suffered through and when I finished the 45 minute workout I felt relaxed and calm. I happen to have a small collection of workout DVDs but if you don't have any or not a fan of your selection,  I suggest going to your local library and checking out what they have.
For a snack I had some fresh blueberries and strawberries with a dab of plain Greek yogurt. Cameron  and I played until daddy got home. Friday nights are usually are go out to eat nights but we decided to stay in and have leftovers. So I had a small BBQ brisket sandwich with some orange bell pepper slices instead of chips. After dinner we headed out side to do some yard work and play until bedtime.

Eating My Emotions

Thursday, May 17, 2012  - So today was a emotional day and I'm sad to say that my eating reflected it.  I started off good by having a banana and some granola for breakfast. I also passed up free fast food to eat some homemade lettuce wraps (lettuce, shredded seasoned chicken breast with roasted red pepper hummus) yummy! Then the emotions took over and I ended up having a bowl of mixed berries with cool whip and chocolate chips (I tired to be healthy by adding fruit). For dinner I had a brisket sandwich and some Cheetos. Next time, instead of eating my emotions,  I think I will pack up Cam and go for a run or we will just take a few laps around the back yard. I'm sure that would have actually made me feel better. The food just helped me give into my sadness. Tomorrow's a new day...I think I will start it off with a workout. I'll let you know how it goes. =)

Living Up to the Name...

Killing it with Kilgore is NO JOKE!! On Monday, May 14, 2012 we met up at Earlywine Park. After a quick warm-up it was time for me to run a timed mile.  I was not looking forward to this and could not wait for it to be over.  I'm not a runner, have never been a runner, but would someday like to enjoy it more.  However, today was not that day! Christy ran with me which helped because I didn't want to slow her down.  I had to push myself to keep going and before I knew it we had made it to the half mile mark, WOOHOO! After a quick walk to catch my breath we were jogging again. Once I saw the finish line I gave it my all, which wasn't much considering I couldn't feel my legs. LOL! I finished in a little over10 minutes, YES! I was ready to call it a day but no such luck. It was time for circuit training.  I was actually excited after I caught my breath. She had me do a lot on the pilates ball (one that I've had from looong ago). I didn't realize how much I missed that ball. Today's focus was on the chest, abs, back and glutes. I love workouts where you can work more than one body part at a time and not really know it. With the pilates ball you have to engage several muscle groups to keep your balance. If you don't have one I suggest getting one. A bonus is that kids love them too!

On Tuesday I had to work and since Mothers Day Out is over I had my trusty sidekick, Cameron, with me. I didn't workout  but I did sit on the pilates ball while watching a little TV and worked out my abs a little. We also went on our evening walk but I didn't get much out of that because Cam wanted to "ride" his trike and since he doesn't know how to pedal, we go pretty slow. Good news is...I've lost 5 pounds!!

That brings us to Wednesday, May 16, 2012.  I woke up not feeling very well, and there was a little voice in the back of my head saying "just call and reschedule" but I knew I would feel better if I worked out so I just sucked it up.  Christy came to my house during Cam's nap time. Of course he ended up waking up as soon as she got here so that didn't really work.  I started off with a quick jog down the street and back to get warmed up.  Then we started the "Tank Top Workout". I now know why I don't like to wear tank tops... At one point I seriously thought about just moving somewhere that's always cold because I don't like to workout my shoulders!  We used bands today and did some resistance training.  I did shoulder press, triceps kick backs, and push-ups. I also did some abs move on the pilates ball again. Oh, and she threw in some more walking lunges and a funny, sumo walking move.  My son thought we were acting like tigers. =) We finished the three circuits early so we stared back at the top and went through most of it again.  Did I mention that it was HOT today!?! I took lot's of water breaks and some shade breaks too.  Since my son did not nap he was outside with us for most of the time (when he wasn't running in and out of the house bringing all his trains outside). He did try to do the lunges and stretchering with us.  I like that I'm learning to workout with him around because I used him as my excuse for that past 2 years, I can't remember what excuses I used before him... But now that I know I'm teaching him how to take care of his body by taking care of mine, there are no excuses to make!

Week 1

Monday, May 7, 2012 - AND THE WINNER IS.... I found out I won the Killing it With Kilgore contest...3 months free personal trainer service from Christy Kilgore.  After the shock & excitement of winning wore off, a nervous feeling come over me. What have I gotten myself into? Could I seriously do this? Would I be able to continue blogging about our journey together?  Could I hire a ghost writer to help with my blogs? LOL.

Tuesday, May 8th - LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!  Christy and I met at a local cafe and talked about our expectations and I filled out some necessary paperwork.  She gave me some homework...motivation board, food journal, and the dreaded before pics and measurements. When I left I was feeling confident and excited.

Thursday, May 10th - THE FIRST WORKOUT! So my week was really busy but we found an hour to get in a good workout.  We decided that she would come to my house during my sons (Cameron or Cam for short) nap time and we would enjoy the beautiful weather by doing an outside workout.  Christy came to my house (on time) and did a quick set up of equipment in my backyard.  Then we were off for a quick jog down my street to get warmed up. I was a little nervous/embarrassed to be jogging down the middle of the street but then a neighbor cheered me on and I couldn't help but smile.  She had it set up to do circuits which included step ups, push-ups, walking lunges, triceps dips, abs and a quick 2 laps around the yard every so often to keep my heart rate up.  She explained each move and what muscle to focus on, which helped get the most of my workout. She also helped me with ways to focus on form. Christy was very good to modify moves for me and let me take water breaks or rest when I felt the need.  She was also very understanding when my son woke up from his nap and joined us. I felt bad because I had to run inside a few time to take care of his needs but she didn't mind and got me back on track. Towards the end of our session Cameron brought out his step stool so he could workout with me. This made me smile!  He just might became my little workout buddy.  Now this workout was not easy but I enjoyed it and I look forward to our next session.

Sunday, May 13th - STILL SORE. I woke up Friday and was pretty sore but had a full day ahead of me so there was no time to think about it my aching muscles.  I had a doctors appointment and blood work done in the morning, lunch with a friend that afternoon then it was back home to clean house and pack for a quick trip to see my parents.  I didn't get a workout in but I was careful not to eat too bad.  I also had a head cold creeping up on me with a lovely ear ache that wouldn't go away.  After a good nights sleep I woke up Saturday barely able to move and to top it off I had a full blown head cold.  The pain in my ear was almost unbearable.  We had a pretty busy day planed but I wanted to get in a quick workout before it got crazy.  My parents live in the country and have a pretty long drive way so I decided I would jog the length of it a few times. As I headed out the door Cameron insisted that he join me and he kept up with me until he discovered some water puddles that he had to jump in. After I got my heart rate up I found a step to do step ups on and set my timer for 1 minute and started stepping. I kept stepping and stepping wondering when the glorious sound of the timer was going to go off. Then I looked down to see that I had set the timer for 1 HOUR instead of 1 minute.  So I ended up stepping for almost 2 minutes, HAHA. Before I could try to figure out my next move my son had decided he needed to go on a John Deere Gator ride RIGHT NOW! So we loaded up and had a little family fun riding though the fields and even stopped to pick some flowers.  When we got back I did a few jumping jacks and push ups before getting ready to visit with family and friends.  After lunch my husband and I headed back home for a date night while Cameron stayed with my parents.  We went out to eat and then enjoyed walking around the Myriad Garden and rediscovered downtown Oklahoma City. We also found a Children's Garden/play area that we can't wait to take Cam to. I'm so glad that we are become more active and can't wait to discover more things that we have been passing by.

Killing it With Kilgore...

I NEED YOUR HELP! I'm a 34 year old (as of today 5/4/12) wife/stay at home mom and I also work part time at St. Andrew's UMC as the Children's Ministry Assistant.
I have never lost a significant amount of weight I have only gradually gained over the years.  6 years ago I weighed about 140 pounds but due to horrible eating habits and lack of activity I now weigh 180 pounds.  I figured being a stay at home mom it would be easy to eat healthy and workout but I have yet to find the motivation and drive that is needed to succeed. My son is 2 years old and VERY active.  We go on nightly walks after playing all day. I sometimes have to "push" myself out the door because I don't want my laziness to become his bad habit.  My husband and I both are starting to see the effects that bad eating habits and lack of exercise are making on our quality of life.  We want to be the family that enjoys outdoor activities on the weekends.  I dream of the day that we spend our Saturdays taking bike rides, hikes, or nature walks instead of complaining that we are too tired to do anything.  I'm ready to stop making excuses and start working hard to live the life I have been dreaming of.  With summer time approaching...actually the weather is already here! I don't want to spend another day wearing jeans and a 3/4 length shirt, when it's 100 degrees outside,  trying to cover up what I have done to my body. I need your help to get me into some shorts and tank tops.  I have the potential and drive... I just need your guidance to make it happen.  I'm not only doing this for me, I'm doing it for my family. I want to be a good influence for those I love.  I would love to tell everyone that Killing it With Kilgore changed my life and made me look fabulous!  I'm the best candidate because I'm a giver... I will give my all to help you start your career as a personal trainer.  I value people more than anything and I enjoy helping others, so knowing that I am representing you will give me more motivation to succeed.  I'm not afraid of working out until I get sick but what I am afraid of is getting sick because I didn't workout hard enough.  I am willing to blog and post my progress.  This is a big deal because I am not a writer and almost didn't submit my entry.  BUT I'm tired of making excuses!!!!!
